Types of treatments that we offer
What is Semaglutide?
Semaglutide is GLP-1 (Glucagon-Like Peptide) receptor agonist (RA). This means that it causes more of the naturally occurring GLP hormone to be secreted from our small intestine in response to eating. A GLP 1 RA like Semaglutide also signals more insulin production in our body and that’s why Semaglutide is also used to control Type 2 diabetic conditions. Semaglutide also interacts with the brain to suppress appetite and to reduce hunger, resulting in feeling fuller before over-eating.
What is the typical dose of Semaglutide for Weight management and how do I receive it?
Semaglutide is injected subcutaneously, once per week. This is typically performed in our office but can be done at home by selecting patients who are comfortable giving themselves injections. We give your body time to adjust by starting slow and increasing the amount each month. We typically start with a weekly dose of 0.25 mg for 4 weeks, then increase every 4 weeks to 0.5 mg, 1.0 mg, 1.7 mg, and an additional increment to 2.4 mg for our patients who require it. Semaglutide is an effective injectable medication to treat obesity and it routinely helps people lower their body weight by 10% or more.
This amount of weight reduction allows us to achieve better cardiometabolic health, gain energy, participate in healthier lifestyles, and frequently gain more confidence in social activities.
